The Late Now
with ANDREI CODRESCU
One night only — hosted by Leo Daedalus
Tony Starlight Showroom
DINNER: 6:45 PM
SHOW: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
We kick off our 2016 season with special guest Andrei Codrescu, author and NPR correspondent on All Things Considered. Codrescu’s book The Post-Human Dada Guide makes for a timely interview: The Late Now reboot celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the irreverent Dada (anti)-art movement in Zürich, Switzerland. We’ll have a remote interview with the operators of the restored Cabaret Voltaire, Dada’s birthplace.
We’ll also talk with Sara Krajewski, the new Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum. Sara is into curating forms of transdisciplinary artistic practices, including installation art and performance, and hey, so are we! She was previously the Director of INOVA (Institute of Visual Arts) in Milwaukee, WI and Curator at the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, and we’re going to give her a proper TLN PDX Dada welcome.
BUT WAIT, YOU ALSO GET:
A Dada puppet show written expressly for the show by Andrei Codrescu, and The Wheel of Manifesto, a Dada game show with Codrescu, audience participation, and ausgezeichnet prizes!
Additional guests include Portland composer Christopher Corbell, whose opera Viva’s Holiday premiered to great acclaim in December, 2015. Plus avant-poet James Yeary does the Experimental Weather Report with video by New York visual poet Nico Vassilakis, and Mark Owens performs Dadaist Kurt Schwitters' Ursonate.
THE LATE NOW GRAND CRÜ BAND
Feb 5 will also début The Late Now Grand Crü Band featuring Anna Leander (AnnaPaul & The Bearded Lady) on vocals, trombone & keytar, and bandleader/drummer Charles Pike (Franco Paletta and the Stingers), pictured above — plus Paul Brainard (guitar, trumpet), Michelle Horgen (keys), and Russell Gores (bass).
The setlist showcases exuberant hits in multiple languages, plus a TLN Tribute to David Bowie, because Bowie.
